The Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) is slated to hold a series of Human Rights Tribunal Sessions across the Country, beginning tomorrow (today) February 11th, 2025 at its headquarters in Kampala.
According to the Cause list (Schedule) issued by the Chairperson Hon. Mariam Wangadya, the Commission is slated to start with handling complaints that arose within the jurisdiction of the UHRC Central Regional Office. A total of 17 complaints are slated to be heard by this Tribunal chaired by the Chairperson Hon. Wangadya and at least three members of the Commission. The session will start at 08:30am at the UHRC Headquarters along Lumumba Avenue Plot 19 – Rumee Building, daily up to Thursday February 13th, 2025.
This will be followed by complaints that arose in Lango sub-region to be heard from the UHRC Lira Regional Office, followed by sessions at Soroti Regional Office, then Gulu and Mbarara Regional Offices.
This is in fulfillment of the Commission’s mandate under Article 52 (1) (a), 53 (1) and 53(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda of receiving, investigating, adjudicating and offering redress in all complaints of human rights violation. The sessions are being supported by the Governance and Security Programme formerly Justice Law and Order Sector (JLOS) and for the first time Government of Uganda.
