Uganda Human Rights Commission Chairperson Pays Tribute to Late President Jimmy Carter – Kampala, Uganda

On January 8, 2025, Adv. Mariam Wangadya, Chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC), met with U.S. Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. William Popp, at the U.S. Mission in Kampala. The meeting focused on advancing Uganda-U.S. collaboration in the promotion and protection of human rights.

During her visit, Chairperson Wangadya signed the official condolence book to honor the late U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on December 29, 2024.

In her message, she wrote:

“On behalf of the Uganda Human Rights Commission, I extend our deepest condolences to the US on the passing of President Jimmy Carter. His unwavering commitment to human rights, peace, and global justice will continue to inspire. May his legacy guide our shared pursuit of dignity and equality for all.”

She was accompanied by Commissioner Crispin Kaheru, Deputy Director Pauline Nansamba, and UHRC Public Affairs Manager Alex Bukumunhe. This visit underscored the Uganda Human Rights Commission’s dedication to the values championed by President Carter and its ongoing efforts to strengthen international cooperation in the advancement of human rights.
