On 5th July 2016, Uganda Human Rights Commission staff attended a training on monitoring psychiatric facilities. This training which was organized by Mental Health Disability Advocacy Centre (mdca) took place in the UHRC board room and attracted a total of 20 participants. The Campaigns Director, Steven Allen introduced the Institutional Treatment Human rights Care Assessment (ITHACA) toolkit to the members of staff, this toolkit provides the methodology for conducting, monitoring and evaluating mental health rights in psychiatric facilities. It was designed to provide a complete guide to monitor human rights including the right to health in mental health and social care institutions.
