Twembi Theopista is a married Ugandan currently working as a Principal Human Rights Officer heading the UHRC Kabale Regional office in Kigezi Region.

She holds a degree in Social work and social Administration from Makerere University.

Theopista joined the Commission as a Volunteer in 2004 under the UHRC Fortportal Regional office and since then has   risen to different ranks, promoted and transferred to different areas/offices under different capacities within the Commission.

She was appointed as a Human Rights officer Investigations in 2007 and served in both Forportal and Mbarara Regional offices. In 2013 she was appointed a Principal Human Rights Officer and became the Regional Head for Mbarara Regional office. She was later transferred to the UHRC headquarters in the Directorate of Monitoring and Inspections in November 2018. In the Directorate of Monitoring and Inspections was in-charge of cordinating the UHRC Annual Report processes and cordinated UHRC’s 21st, 22nd and 23rd Annual Reports.

She was transferred to Kigezi Region in January 2022 to kick start the  current and  youngest UHRC Kabale Regional office that care takes all the six districts under Kigezi Region  which include Kabale, Rubanda, Kisoro, Kanungu, Rukungiri and Rukiga.

As a Principal Human Rights Officer, she has diligently executed the mandate of the Commission in the Region in line with the existing policies, integrity and commitment. She has spear headed the partnership spirit with both government and non-government stakeholders in the region towards human rights observance.

She always applies the UHRC principles in her day to day work at the Regional office and this has led to many people approaching the Regional office for different Commission services. She strongly believes that Human Rights is a Key to development and always  urges and encourages people who approach the Regional office to do good because” When you do good you feel good and when you feel good you do good”

Considering the time she has worked with the UHRC, she has attended both Internal and external trainings and attained  a wealthy expertise in the following areas like Human Rights Promotion and Protection, Human Rights Education, Human Rights Research, Investigation and Documentation, Counseling and Mediation and Peace and conflict  prevention.
