Ms. Harriet Kajobe Rwakabbira is a Principal Human Rights Officer currently working with the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC). She is a passionate human rights defender and experienced Administrator who has worked with the National Human Rights Institution for over 18 years in different capacities and at different levels raising through the ranks. In her work of promotion and protection of human rights as per the Institutional mandate, she served at the UHRC’s Head Office and Fort Portal Regional office as Human Rights Officer under the Directorate of Research, Education, and Documentation, and later as the pioneer Regional Human Rights Officer at the newly established Hoima Regional Office in 2013. She was later posted to head the Arua Regional Office in West Nile, where she worked for close for years and there after posted back to Fort Portal Regional office in the Rwenzori Region (greater Tooro) as the Regional Principal Human Rights Officer where she is currently duty stationed.

Harriet holds Masters of Arts (MA) in Development Studies, Major in Human Rights, Gender and Conflict Studies: Social Justice Perspectives (2016) from the International Institute of Social Studies of Erasmus University in The Hague, Netherlands, a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences (Second Class Upper) from Makerere University, Kampala (2006), an Equitas Certificate in human rights education from the International Human Rights Training Programme, Montreal, Canada (2012) and Certificate in a training on Conflict, Rule of Law and Local Security from The Hague Academy for Local Governance, in The Netherlands. In addition, she has attended several other trainings and short courses in human rights.
