Ms. Akello Josephine has been the Regional Human Rights Officer at Uganda Human Rights Commission, Soroti Regional Office, since May 2022. She oversees the three Sub-regions of Teso, Bugisu, and Sebei in the Eastern part of Uganda. She is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the interventions and programs at the Regional Office and the two Field Offices of Mbale City and Kapchorwa.
She is an open-minded person, appreciative of social and cultural diversity. Fortunate to have worked at the UHRC- Northern Uganda Regional Office-Gulu as the Volunteer at the UHRC- Civil Military Cooperation Centre-Pader (from December 2006 – October 2008) and Human Rights Officer-Investigations-Gulu Regional Office (from November 2008 – April 2022) at the time when the Region was recovering from the effects of 20 years LRA insurgency which has shaped her profile to take up sensitive matters constructively and conclusively with various actors including State authorities at the Regional level. She holds a Bachelor’s degree of Arts in Social Sciences from Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda, and a Diploma in Human Rights from the Law Development Centre.
