The Chairperson Hon. Mariam Wangadya met Heads of Opposition Political Parties under their umbrella- the Joint Democratic Platform at the UHRC headquarters on JLOS Towers. They presented to her their position paper on the current state of human rights and freedoms in the country with recommendations to the Commission on how to strengthen the protection and promotion of human rights.

The Chairperson welcomed the initiative and appreciated the efforts of the political parties. She assured them that the Commission will look into each and every issue raised, the recommendations and engage relevant stakeholders in human rights protection before  providing feedback to them. She noted that henceforth, such engagements will be held on a quarterly basis with political parties.

The heads of political parties present included:- PFF Deputy President, Hon. Dr. Lulume Bayiga; Uganda People's Congress President, Hon. Jimmy Akena; PPP President, Mr. Saddam Gayira; FDC Deputy President, Hon. Ibrahim Kasozi; NUP Deputy President for Western Uganda, Ms. Jolly Jackline Tukamushaba; ANT Deputy President Buganda Region, Ms. Namuyaba Safina Sebaggala; Hon. Wafula Ogutu, Member of the Council of Eminent Persons in PFF; and PFF Attorney General, Mr. Moses Tugume
