The Rt. Hon. 1st Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Service Hon. Henry Kajura Muganwa has warned Hoima residents against corruption and warned that it is the root cause of increasing crimes and rampant land disputes in the district.
Speaking at the official launching of the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) Hoima Regional Office at Hoima Boma grounds in Bujwahya cell on Friday 14th February 2014, Hon. Kajura noted that some poor people who have cases of land disputes often seek justice from the local leaders and authorities who instead of assisting them, turn the cases into money minting ventures. Kajura, who is also the area MP from Hoima District, encouraged leaders to uphold the rule of law, accountability and trust.
The Chairperson to the Uganda Human Rights Commission Mr. Med S.K. Kaggwa said theopening of Hoima regional office is in line with the Commission’s regionalisation programme as provided for under the UHRC Act. The regionalisation programme aims at taking services closer to the people.
He explained that the Hoima regional office would bring to the people in Bunyoro Kitara region and Kyankwanzi district human rights services that would include human rights sensitisation programmes and resolution of complaints of human rights violations.”
Mr. Bagonza Tinkamanyire, the LC5 chairman praised the UHRC for opening an office in Hoima and called upon all residents of Hoima district to utilize the services of the regional office.
The UHRC HoimaRegional Office covers Districts of Hoima, Masindi,Kiryandongo,Buliisa, Kibaale and Kyankwanzi.
