Hon. Meddie B Mulumba is one of the two new Members who joined the newly appointed Members of the Commission of the Uganda Human Rights Commission which took office on 5th February 2016. He joins the Commission after serving as a Member of Parliament for Luuka District in the eighth parliament from 2006 to 2011.
Before becoming a legislator, Hon Mulumba worked as a Manager with various business organisations including N.G General Limitedand as Director and Chief Executive Officer of NBJ Investments Limited from 1994 to 1997. From 2006 to 2011, Mr Mulumba worked as a Board Member and East African Representative of an American Company Action for Gender Based Empowerment Network (AGEN) Inc. At the time of appointment as a Member of the Commission of the UHRC, Hon. Meddie Mulumba was serving as a Member of the Board of Uganda Air Cargo and Chairman of its Business Development and Marketing Committee.
Hon. Mulumba is a graduate with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Sciences from Makerere University, which he attained in 1994. He also holds a Diploma in Project Planning and Management from the Uganda Chamber of Commerce and Industry which he obtained in 1998 as well as a Certificate in Leadership from the U.S State Department Visitor’s Leadership Programme, Washington D.C. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Laws Degree at Makerere University, Kampala. (2008).
His vast experience in business management and the number of assignments he held during his time as a legislator which included the office of Vice Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Budget; member of the Appointments Committee; member of the Legal and Parliamentary Committee among many others, adequately equipped him with knowledge in governance, democracy and financial management. The Commission is therefore optimistic that the vast knowledge and experience of Hon Mulumba in a cross section of areas will be of immense benefit to his new assignment at the UHRC.
