The Uganda Human Rights Commission has learnt with profound shock and sorrow of the gruesome death of the former Assistant Inspector General of Police Andrew Felix Kaweesi, who was gunned down this morning a few metres from his home in Kulambiro, a Kampala suburb. We have also learnt that the two policemen who were with him: Constable Driver GodfreyMambewa and his bodyguard Corporal KenethErau were also brutally murdered by the same unknown assailants.
On behalf of the Uganda Human Rights Commission and on my own behalf, I wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to the Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura, the entire police force, the Government of Uganda and the country at large on this tragic loss. Our prayers and thoughts go out to the Uganda Police Force, the families of AfandeKaweesi, Corporal Erauand Constable Driver Mambewawho lost their loved ones, as wellas the Government of Uganda and the entire country.
The country has lost a gallant officer in the late AIGP Kaweesi and the Commission has lost a great partner who readily responded to any issues we raised regarding the Uganda Police Force. On several occasions he joined the Commission in its public outreach activities. The Commission also remembers him for his passion for community policing. We and the country at large will miss the human face that he brought to police work.
The Uganda Human Rights Commission strongly condemns this heinous act and calls for thorough and expeditious investigations so that the perpetrators are brought to book.
